Filled with information!

This is a very informative book explaining hand and feet reflexology and methods. I think with practice and using this book as a reference this method of self therapy could be very beneficial. The book is easy to understand and detailed enough to really be helpful. I have put a few of the suggestions into practice and have experienced some relief. Filled with information about the origin and cause of pain as well as how reflexology works and heals the body. I do think it requires dedication and practice to really become accomplished but this is a good guide.

Short And Quite Detailed On Using Reflexology

The book was a quick read with quite a bit of detail regarding the different zones used in reflexology. Having never tried reflexology in the past, my first attempt yielded a positive experience. Reflexology should be considered as another method for dealing with pain.

if you want this, at least get the kindle version and not the paper booklet

i just received this in the mail and my refund has already been processed. i returned to the item's description and reviews to see if i had been misled, or if i had made a gross error in judgement. my intention had been to buy a basic book about reflexology that contained some meaty but concise information for a friend who i practice on each week. there was reference to it not being huge, but i didn't realize it would be 5x7 inches, about 3/16's of an inch thick with under 40 pages of reading text with fairly large font and poor-quality charts printed on cheap paper. none of those things were delineated, so it wasn't my fault for making this buying error, but i also understand the good reviews because some people paid $2.99 for a kindle ebook, which is in the ballpark of being a reasonable price and it might be a useful read for people who are completely clueless about what reflexology is and does. there is an audience out there for this type of book. i read probably 100 times this much information before taking my first reflexology workshops in november of this year, which still wasn't nearly enough information to prepare me for an intense 3 days of instruction and hands-on work. now five weeks later, having read incessantly and practiced on friends, family and myself regularly, i am still at the fringes of this exciting energy-work modality and someday hope to be expert at it, but that will be a year or two from now at the soonest even though i could legally give sessions for money right now if i wanted to do so.

i'd better explain my reasoning for the three stars. it is because the kindle version is reasonably priced, still on the high end for what you get, but the author put work into this and wants to be recompensed for her efforts. so the three stars is because it is available at a reasonable price as a kindle booklet. two stars minused are for the price of the paper copy and for calling it a book much less a volume. this is more like an essay about reflexology that you might expect to come out of a second year English class: an informational piece of nontechnical writing giving general information about a subject.

Great book with comprehensive insight

I have personally had to deal with situations such as those mentioned in this book, and will in the future as well. This book gave me lots of ideas and support for coping in such situations and really made it clear what personality disorders are and can do to people.

The book is comprehensive and certainly earns its five stars. I would recommend it to everyone, not just those already impacted by these issues.

Very informative

I bought this book due to one of my family members being in an unhealthy relationship. I was worried that they were being manipulated and I was starting to see the results of them being brainwashed as well as developing a codependency. This book along with counseling was good help for that person as well as for me having peace of mind in understanding the whole situation. If you or a loved one is in a similar situation, than I would recommend this short read to help you or them understand, cope and get out of the relationship. It is also very helpful for people to know character traits of a psychopath so they do not get involved with that person in the first place. This is a very informative, short read for anyone dealing with a psychopathic personality disorder.

I am looking for more information about psychopath because this is the assigned topic to me by our team leader. I looked for a good source of information about psychopath and it brings me here. This book explained to me who exactly a psychopath is. This book taught me who their victims are. I learned how to deal with a psychopath. I also learned why it is so hard to escape. This is a good book about psychopath but I know there are more explanations in this topic that are not included but this is a good start.

As the story progresses, a mysterious kid dressed as a devil who might just be one, razor blades in apples, a boy named Mr. Kitty with a breast fetish, a dead dog, a missing bra and much more mix together for a lively and inventive tale. Giffen's darkly humored script draws laughs from such things as evisceration while capturing the childlike glee at dressing up and walking by a scary graveyard. He also leaves plenty of mysteries for the next two volumes to solve. Cocreator Roman's art is occasionally too detailed for the small pages, but he excels at unique character designs and macabre details. Along the way, mishaps and misadventures ensue involving revenge on an elderly woman who doles out apples as treats and a bloody pursuit that revolves around a piece of stolen lingerie. What follows is a feeble plot overshadowed by off-color sexual humor and gratuitous violence. At first glance, this book appears to have a Nightmare before Christmas meets South Park feel, though it is clearly not meant for those with a weak stomach. Placing itself in the comedy-horror genre, it offers more gore than laughs and even fewer scares. A stronger buy in this category would be Ted Naifeh's Courtney Crumrin series (Oni Pr.) or Matsuri Akino's Pet Shop of Horrors (Tokyopop). I Luv Halloween is an exercise in dark humor. Twisted and almost evilly funny, it hits the spot usually reserved for zombie movies. Finch, his little sister Moochie, and his gang of friends head out for the traditional kid ritual of trick or treat but are thwarted early in the night when their efforts garner only apples. Worrying that this kind of catastrophic failure so early on may be a sign of things to come, the group sets out to get things back on track. Their efforts result in arrests, lost undergarments, and more than a couple of deaths. While the humor is probably best left to more mature readers, Roman has managed to get close to the way real kids talk among themselves--a mixture of bravado and feigned disinterest held together by loads of sarcasm. Giffen's art is spot-on for the characters' warped wit: edgy and loaded with attitude but just cute enough to add to the hilarity. This book should become a fond favorite of Tim Burton fans. Hilarious

Can't believe no one has reviewed this book yet. It's absolutely hilarious in a very demented sick way. If your humor runs to enjoying others pain and suffering, if you really wish to rule a zombie army, if you get off on paying no attention to other people then screwing them over, well .. aside from being on messed up freak .. you'll love this book. Not for the morally minded, there are various nipple appearances. But not for the fanboys either, the main female character is a rock weilding murderer still in toddler clothes. no need to go to tokyopop's website to preview the first chapters, just buy the book. deffinetly worth it.

Something new.

This book really isn't given enough appreciation to end where it really excels. Many readers, going into this, are frankly in the wrong for carrying too many expections along with them. Here you will not find the familiar lodgings of a Slave Laboresque horror/humor mashing. While Lenore and Johnny the Homicidal Maniac present us with worlds that are, in essense, fantastic reinterpretations of our own, Benjamin Roman and Keith Giffen present the reader with a world governed by unfamiliar rules. Not provided with a safety net narration, the reader is thrust into a world which on the surface is similiar to ours, but underneath has jarring and facsinating differences that work with the story elements toward more and more unlikely scenarios. The narration told just enough to leave me pondering like a child over the laws that govern this fictional universe. It's a blast just to observe the goings-ons, read the off-beat exchanges between characters, and watch the overarching and glib plot unfold.

The hints of supernatural twists in this volume are enough to drive me to the next one, which promises an elaboration of the only glimpsed at zombie theme.

Dark kids

To read this manga you really have to be prepared to be surprised with this dark kids. It all starts when this group of kids get an apple each in the first house they trick or treat, which it seems brings back luck. But, there's a friend ( Devil mask) which only comes that day; they only get to see him only in Halloween, don't know from where he is and such; that didn't trick or treat with them at that house so there's a chance that maybe they will get clean and have good candies. To their surprise, bad luck comes when Devil gets chocolate and so in every place they go. It seems they need to reverse the "curse"(?) by killing the one who did it which was the old lady who gave them the apples. Also, Finch knows how to bring back the dead; knows about zombies. An example of this is their dog. I don't know if the house they are at the prologue and in the end is their house, nor if those two that are dead are their parents (which I dont think so). But if they aren't what happened to them? the only clue I have (that yet again we dont know if is their house) was when in the beginning they show Finch in a room with an article that said: MOTHER OF TWO DEAD and other one about Murder. We don't know (at least in this volume) if this kids ( Finch and his sister Moochie) are homeless and such that maybe they are living in the house of those two dead bodies. Moochie is ver psycho, I don't even know how she gets such ideas of killing people for the teeths.

Jim Lee sins.

Deathblow was one of the best of the early Wildstorm creations. The character has a depth and intensity seldom found in Image comics. This volume collects the first twelve issues of Deathblow, in which a regretful killer must try to save his soul while dealing with armageddon. Though the story stretches on a bit long, it's worth it. The first two parts feature incredible Sin City-inspired art by Jim Lee. The rest is by Tim Sale, now known for his work on Batman: The Long Halloween. This collection is well worth the investment.

DEATHBLOW REVISITED

Think "MERCENARY HAS SUPERNATURAL ADVENTURES" and you basically described Deathblow in a nut shell, with two notable twists: he's a very important player in the history of the underappreciated Wildstorm Universe, and he's dying of cancer.

Containing Deathblow's first appearance in Darker Image #1, along with the first 12 issues of his own series, this new hardcover edition reshuffles the story so that it reads chronologically rather than in flashbacks, as it's structured in the original comics. I don't know if this is how the previous softcover collection (Saints and Sinners) was compiled, but I thought it was an interesting approach. Narratively, it makes sense to streamline the story and is a fresh way to look at old material. Visually though it's a bit of a mess, as the story begins with Jim Lee's strong Sin City-inspired artwork, then switches abruptly to fill-in artists Tim Sale and Trevor Scott, then back to Lee, then back to Sale. It makes for a disorienting reading experience, to say the least. The positive note for the art is that once Lee departed the book's interiors with #3, Tim Sale improved issue after issue as the series progressed and it was really neat to watch him develop his early style before becoming the incredible artist he's known as today.

This new edition also features the covers of each issue at the start of each chapter, the Jim Lee pin-ups from the original comics, and some other pinups/covers. I'm not sure if the original art has been re-scanned from previous collections, but compared to my original issues this is hands down the best the art has ever looked. But, the big draw for this collection will undoubtedly be the new dust jacket and cover artwork. While previously released online by Jim Lee as individual painted sketches, the 2 pieces are showcased here with gorgeous high resolution printing, and they wrap the book perfectly.

I imagine this is a probably a must-buy only for hardcore Wildstorm fans like myself or Jim Lee completists, but for $25, this particular trip down memory lane has never looked so good.

Call it 3.5 stars - Team 7 vs. the Apocalypse

Despite a somewhat rough start, Deathblow ended up becoming one of the better early Image Comics titles, thanks in large part to the issues collected in this volume.

Deathblow: Sinners & Saints collects issues 1-12 of the ongoing Deathblow series, which focused on Michael Cray, aka Deathblow, a black ops warrior with a bloody past, a guilty conscience, and a disease that leaves him with very little time left to live. This series was obviously born of superstar artist Jim Lee's joint fascination with Richard Marcinko novels and Frank Miller's groundbreaking Sin City work. The first couple of issues, which were drawn by Lee, featured an abundance of military jargon and artwork that was extremely similar to the black and white style found in Sin City. They basically established Cray as a warrior without peer in a military unit known for doing the government's dirty work.

How that turned into a series about the Antichrist and the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse is anybody's guess.

The story took a radical turn in issue 3, in which the Black Angel (who for some reason looks a lot like Trent Reznor) was released from Purgatory, where he was imprisoned by the holy Order of the Cross. Seriously, the story became ½ black ops and ½ supernatural horror. Weird, but writer Brandon Choi makes it work. Cray is forced to reconcile the events in his past and lead the fight against the Black Angel and his Horsemen. In a nice turn of events, Cray's former Team 7 mates reunite to lend a hand. The Team 7 back story is really what ties the Wildstorm Universe together, so seeing them together again, particularly in such a spectacular fashion, is a real treat.

The artwork from issue 3 forward was provided by former Grendel artist Tim Sale. He would later become a major name in the industry with his work on Batman: the Long Halloween and several other projects with writer Jeph Loeb, but this was where he made his mainstream debut. He obviously started out with the same Miller worship that Lee brought to the series, but established his own unique style soon enough.

Overall, this was a good series and makes a nice trade paperback. Looking back a decade later it's easy to see the flaws in a lot of these Image books, but I think Deathblow holds up pretty well. My only complaint about this volume is that it did not include the Deathblow preview story that ran in the Darker Image one-shot. Not only did it feature Jim Lee artwork, but it was also the character's first appearance, and should have been included here.

A very entertaining graphic novel

Arriving in the early twentieth century, the (eleventh) Doctor and is surprised to make the acquaintance of Amy Johnson, a pioneering English aviatrix, who is shortly to go missing. But, it turns out that someone else has arrived on Earth, a very angry alien who has revenge on his mind. But, in foiling the alien the Doctor and Clara and Amy find themselves being swept across the cosmos, working against the machinations of Azrael, the first nectrotist!

Overall, I found this to be a very entertaining graphic novel. The author did a great job of presenting Matt Smith’s Doctor and Clara. Also, the stories in the book were all very entertaining, and the illustration work is very good indeed. I really enjoyed this book and don’t hesitate to recommend it!

Her husband and Nina's father, Peter, was a die-hard Serbian nationalist who was forced to leave his country in the 1950s. Remaining in Canada, he became involved with a terrorist organization bent on overthrowing the Communist Yugoslav government and attacking its supporters in North America. Then in 1977, while his family was still in Yugoslovia, Peter was killed in an accidental explosion while building a bomb.

which proves she is as funny and moving with lighter material

This is a stunning personal history told in the Graphic Novel format that will join the works of Art Spiegelman and Miriam Katin as important personal documents. It is an experience as well as an absorbing read with Bunjevac's unique and affecting art drawing you into her world. I give this book my highest reccomendation and urge the reader to seek out her first book Heartless, which proves she is as funny and moving with lighter material.

Families torn apart by ideology.

I had no idea there was conflict between Serb-Americans, especially not the kind that resulted in bombings in the USA and Canada. Bunjevac’s father came here after WWII, and hated the communists. He got involved with a terror group, bombed Yugoslav embassies and property throughout the country. Bunjevac’s mother came from a family that supported the communists, and the two families hated each other. In a town with a sizeable Serb population, the two groups were often at odds. I never knew.

Aside from the benefits of a history lesson, Bunjevac’s family biography has a very original style of illustration. The drawings are stark black and white, almost with a photorealistic quality. There’s no color, and the author portrays her life with her family as anything but colorful. Life in Yugoslavia was peasantry, and in the USA they lived in rust belt towns that would’ve been gray all over. Fleeing back to Yugoslavia in the 1970’s (the husband’s terror activities were endangering the family) they ended up in a communist utopia, just as gray as a mill town, but with straight modern lines.

My only quarrel with this book is that the comic book style makes it difficult to put things in writing. There’s more I want to know about, like how the family managed in Yugoslavia in the 70’s and 80’s, and how they survived the civil war of the 1990’s. Other than that, the story shifts easily between a primitive country, bleak American mill towns, communist industry, and families split by politics.

A Terrorist in the Family

This is a story of the author's father, a Serbian nationalist. In the scenes of his childhood you see his reaction to loss is small acts of violence. As he gets older, his life has little joy. He drinks and becomes more violent.

While I'd have liked this to be a more personal book, the story is told in reportorial fashion. You learn how the author's family met and married. You learn the history of their region. You see the steps by which her father became a terrorist.

I selected this after having seen these drawings at an art museum in Toronto. While the story is a only sketch, the pictures are not. They are beautifully done.

The book leaves the reader with too many unanswered questions.

Most Original Comic Collection of The Year!!

Remember the sensation you got as a kid reading comics that were just a little too "mature" for your age? You didn't really understand the content, but the queasy, transgressive titillation of it all drove you to devour every word and every image.

Eric Haven is one of the most original and consistently excellent comic book creators working today. Famous among the cognoscenti for his "Tales to Demolish" series, this new collection of short stories and surreal vignettes collects some of his very best work to date. Here you can follow the exploits of "Man-Cat," the nightmare result of a too-real mix between human and feline. Here you can catch up with serially self-destructing Race Murdock, the artist's alter-ego--a craven, gluttonous anti-hero that parodies not just the standard comic book leading man, but also the impulse to create stories celebrating such creatures.

Here you will discover "BED MAN, Dream-Lord of the Night Sky". . . and you will be forever changed.

Store shelves are flooded with comics that do the dead-pan hipster/superhero parody, the seven-panel non-sequitur, the tale that's intentionally obtuse--these have been the norm among comic makers working outside the mainstream for some time now. Wacky absurdist humor

The first 1/3 of this collection is a wacky bunch of experimental comics, yet not near as memorable as the last 2/3. Starting with "Bed Man, Dream Lord of the Night Sky", UR is hilarious, quality humor. The Race Murdock strips are funny, FUNNY stuff. If you want something to compare this to, it has a similar absurdist feel as the humor found in Tales Designed to Thrizzle. All in all I really enjoyed it, and if the first few strips had been as humorous as the rest of the book, I would have given this five stars.

Finally!

I was so excited to see that this was finally available after so many years! It's only on kindle release but that's fine with me! This volume is open ended but has developments that are very satisfying. The art is beautiful the storyline is interesting with some good humor and character development . I do hope that there will be some way to continue the story! So happy!!
