Darker than the blurb suggests

So, the advertising blurb for *this* volume is somewhat accurate -- sort of a cute Cinderella type story between an "average" Korean teenager and the rich/hot/famous monarch of a miniscule (but prosperous) European country. He's too jaded to believe in love at first sight; she's considering rebelling against her family in order to pursue an art career -- what happens when he falls madly in love with her at first sight? But things aren't always what they appear.

Having read several volumes of the series, I can safely say that this Cinderella/happy-ever-after vibe is a total setup: this is a story about love, hate, lust and obsession. It doesn't take long before the story foreshadows serious trouble between the two (largely fueled by his extreme possessiveness and her indecision), and sure enough, after a few volumes, their relationship starts spiraling horribly out of control. The terms "train wreck" is apropos -- the worse it gets, the harder it is to look away.

So, if you like stories about relationships going horribly wrong and becoming more and more twisted (I'm thinking of the old movie, War of the Roses), you'll probably love it. Surprisingly, I'm enjoying the time spent examining the flaws of the different characters and how these have helped rip apart their weak "love at first sight" relationship along with their own psyches. Both the main characters are so broken and twisted after several novels, they're almost unrecognizable. If you like happy stories where couples are *slightly* tormented by circumstances outside of their control, and where horrible misunderstandings are tidily cleaned up with no emotional aftermath, then give this one a miss.

But, don't count on a tragic ending, either; the two of them seemed doomed to either kill each other (literally) or work it out. Could go either way. (Though I'm guessing it'll be "work it out".) However, Cinderella, it is not -- at least not after the first few novels.

Classic Cinderella but love it anyway

Jay is a normal Korean girl. Until one day she met Prince J of Rouile. He falls head over heels and proposed to her. She accepted, but Jay still has doubt about her feelings for him.

In Volume 4, Jay saved a handsome mafia guy, but had amnesia. Meanwhile, J turned the world over looking for her. When he finally found her in the arms of the mafia guy, he flipped.

The story fast pace and hot. Absolutely getting better with the drama. Can't miss.

Bloodshot beats the Armor Hunters

This TPB collects Bloodshot#0 and Armor Hunters:Bloodshot #1-3.Bloodshot#0 is written by Matt Kindt and drew my Chriscross.The origin story starts off in 1992 being told by the creator of Bloodshot as he is getting a doctor out of a hostage situation.They show other bloodshots from earlier wars that weren't as good as the current one.In Vietnam, the technology was better and could repair itself and could change to the environment. In the 1980's he was more dangerous and said to have dealt with the real people behind the Reagan assasination attempt.In the 1990's they used nanites to give him false memories.In 1993, the creation still wasn't good enough and failed like all the others.Finally, the current one was made and went onto a rampage and he got rid of the creator.In Armor Hunters: Bloodshot, Joe Harris is the writer and Trevor Hairsine is the artist. In #1, It starts out with the hero in the Amazon Forest in Basin, Colombia being hunted.He is working for the army and watching over the villain Malgam. The base is attacked by hound monsters, so bloodshot goes to deal with them.It ends with Lilt showing up to get Malgam and take him.#2 starts out with bloodshot fighting lilt one on one.The colonel joins in and they stop the enemy together and it ends with Bloodshot going to find malgam.#3 is the last part of the 3 part story arc and bloodshot searches for malgam.He gets the upperhand and tries to escape in a vine ship.The hero saves the day by trapping him in a forcefield.The issue ends with Colonel Capshaw giving her ally a new mission and the story ends in Armor Hunters#4.I liked how the art went well with the story and the fighting.

Great start, ok finish

Of all the series that tie-in to Armor Hunters, Armor Hunters: Bloodshot makes the least attempt to stand on its own. Yet, if one can get past this (or if it is simply read in conjunction with Armor Hunters), the result is a fun, action-packed story in the same vein as that of the ongoing Bloodshot title. Those who don’t enjoy Bloodshot would be advised to skip this trade, but those who do will probably like what’s inside.

Armor Hunters: Bloodshot is neatly divided into three chapters. The first shows what Bloodshot had been doing in between the end of Bloodshot vol. 5 and the present before detailing Bloodshot’s arrival at the M.E.R.O. facility and his battle with the Armor Hunters’ hounds, while his battle with Lilt spans the second issue, and in the third he attempts to prevent Malgam from escaping.

The key to enjoying Armor Hunters: Bloodshoot is to accept it for what it is: a story which fills in some of the gaps in Armor Hunters rather than something which is meant to stand alone. Therefore, it goes without saying that this needs to be read alongside the main Armor Hunters story. As it also a Bloodshot story, it shouldn’t be a surprise to know that the focus of these issues is pure action. That’s not to say that there aren’t any smart ideas–the ways in which Bloodshot defeats the hounds, Lilt, and Malgam are quite clever actually–but it isn’t meant to be a “deep” comic.

The first and final issues work exceptionally well because the pacing is excellent. In #1 we see Bloodshot pursued by a team of soldiers only take them down one by one (much like Rambo in First Blood). However, the book then slows down allowing the reader to observe the dynamic between Bloodshot, Colonel Capshaw, and Livewire, who serve as the protagonists of this mini-series. Harris’ characterization of the three is surprisingly strong given that this is his first time writing for Valiant. Capshaw, for instance, has no trust in Bloodshot initially, but essentially gets out of his way once it’s clear that he’s the only capable of fighting Lilt and Malgam. It was also nice to see Livewire and Bloodshot teaming up so seamlessly with her often working in unison with his nanites. The beginning of the third issue is especially strong, in which Bloodshot is tracking Malgam through the darkened M.E.R.O. facility while Livewire, through his nanites, serves as his eyes and ears.

The second issue, however, is the weakest because the pacing is off. It’s by no means unreadable, but there was some questionable decision-making on the part of the creative team as a few moments occurred off-panel–in one panel Bloodshot appears to have the upper hand over Lilt, the next panel shifts to Capshaw in another room, and later we see Bloodshot being thrown into a wall by Lilt, but the moment where Lilt regained control of the fight was never depicted. Additionally, despite the fact that their battle only takes place over a single issue, it still feels as if Harris attempted to stretch too little story into 22 pages.

I’m curious as to how much input Harris was given during this mini-series. The creative teams for the other tie-in series were onboard prior to the crossover, and, presumably, attended the writers’ retreat during which the details of Armor Hunters were discussed. Did Harris also participate in this process or did the Valiant editors simply come up with a basic draft of the plot, which was given to Harris to work from? Regardless, the result isn’t perfect, but it is enjoyable enough for what it is.

Although I’m not the biggest fan of Trevor Hairsine’s aesthetic, I will say that he is a perfect fit for Bloodshot. His scratchy, gritty style really captures the chaotic feel of the battlefield. The most surprising part of seeing his work here is that he hasn’t drawn any Bloodshot interiors before this. However, there are some weaknesses in this book. The artwork in the second issue looks sloppy and rushed, and even though Hairsine bounced back in the third issue there were some still some inconsistencies, such as Malgam who shifts in size from slightly bigger than Bloodshot to practically giant. As a whole, the art for this book looks good (as always, colorist David Baron deserves much of the credit), but there is also room for improvement.

In addition to Armor Hunters: Bloodshot #1-3, the trade also includes Bloodshot #0, which had previously been collected in Bloodshot vol. 4, presumably because Valiant didn’t feel comfortable releasing a trade with only three issues (they did something similar with Unity vol. 2). Personally, I’d rather pay less than have issues collected redundantly, and the book’s rating was reduced accordingly. That said, unlike many others, I actually enjoyed the main story (for what it’s worth, I also seem to like Bloodshot more than most). There were definitely some issues with pacing, but I appreciate that Harris didn’t attempt to drag out Bloodshot’s battle with Lilt over three issues, and instead included clever battles with a horde of alien hounds and Malgam. Considering how well he acquitted himself with a story arc that was more or less handed to him, I would have liked to see Harris given the chance to write his own story arc.

This trade paperback includes Valiant’s Armor Hunters: Bloodshot mini-series issues 1-3, written by Joe Harris with art by Trevor Hairsine, plus Bloodshot #0 written Matt Kindt with art by ChrisCross.
This volume ties into Valiant’s Armor Hunters event and while not essential to the main story, it does provide added depth to the narrative. If you are reading Armor Hunters and are curious about Bloodshot, or if you are already a Bloodshot fan, then pick this up.

We start with Bloodshot in Colombia, giving us some insight into what he’s been up to; he’s recruited by Livewire and enlisted to help defend M.E.R.O. following the Armor Hunters destruction of Mexico City, even though Colonel Capshaw is clearly not a fan of his. This volume is an intense, action packed showcase of how formidable Bloodshot is: he takes on the Armor Hunters initial wave, then one of the Armor Hunters themselves and finishes up by making sure that Malgam cannot escape and all of this while those military personal that have survived are evacuating the base, in essence giving them the time to do so.

Bloodshot #0 gives us a look into Bloodshot’s bloody and brutal origin, narrated by a scientist working on the project, we also learn about the various earlier versions. If you haven’t been following the Bloodshot series, then this will be a nice additional story for you to learn more about him.

A must have!!

Steven is a compassionate soul. This book has helped me understand why I have jad 3 bad relationships. It made me and guided me through the process of healing and discovery. I finished the book and have a binder full of insights intocmy psyche. For me this book carried me over a hump in my life. I lost my pets, home, husband, and job in early 2015. After a struggle for my life, my husband had a 12 hour standoff with police that ended in a catastrofic house fire. I lost pets amd all material possessions. Stevens little book here was the catalyst for healing and discovery. I cant say enough. Or maybe i have, i recommend you get this and begin your journey to healthy heart, mind, and spirit.

This Story Does What It Is Suppose To Do . . . Make Kids Want To Read

Cad is back with all his Budskies taking a bite out of the Big Apple, in the land of Central Park. As with this whole series the text is written in a rhyming DNA if you will. But, it is by no means just for primary reading.

This is a great pre beginning chapter book with lots of opportunity for a kid to not only enjoy a good story, but learn a little about the art of words and their usage.

While not an educational book at all, this story, with it's great characters, inventive story line and crisp dialogue, hooks a kid on the process of reading. By introducing them to a style, that is conducive to expanding their minds. It's not rocket science no, it's just a well-written book that does not disappoint.

The formatting and editing is spot on as well, as is usual with Gilmor style of writing it is warm and fuzzy in a way that makes it relatable, and does what kids literature should do inspire, entertain and enlighten.

Great Little Tour of NYC with Cad McGhee

Hello, I am the illustrator who worked on this adventure of Cad and his Nasty Three.
I encourage you to take a trip around the Big Apple with Cad and eventually Sarge as he catches up to these raccoons.
In working on the art I really wanted to capture the true look of New York City in the settings.
I am sure any child will enjoy the entire series and perhaps learn a little more about the places Cad visits.
I didn't know there was a castle in Central Park, that is really neat.

"Fred & Frank" lifts the covers off of military life in 1980s' overseas locations.

I wasn't stationed in Germany (I did get to visit there, once), but I was stationed in England (RAF Croughton) for two years (1981-1983). The "Fred & Frank" comics were a regular in a monthly free magazine, "Overseas Life." Mr. Kaufman did a very good job of capturing the nuances of being an American G.I., living in a foreign country, and spicing them up for the enjoyment of the inherent and often-times unavoidable humor. Be it experiences while interfacing and integrating with the local culture, or the unique specifics of being in the military and all that goes with it, these comics bring out a lot of the details, with some exaggeration and humor cleverly added to make these very special and memorable.

I still have my copy of the original magazine, which is the body of the work of this eBook. Great memories! I'm glad to see it given new life through this "republishing."

The only thing I have to say is if you were stationed in Germany anytime from the late 70's into the early 90's, you can relate to Fred and Frank, the protagonists in this fantastic book. Doesn't matter what service, you can certainly relate to the GI topics of the day Fred and Frank make fun of. A very good comic, and good reading for anyone in the military during the Cold War period.

This is the series that has finally got me into comics.

This is the series that has finally got me into comics. I used to only be passively interested in comic characters and such, never really read any before for the most part, mostly watched comic book movies and listened to podcasts and people talk about comics and such. Seeing this character made me curious and very interested. Also I'm all for more female super-heroes. The costume design is simply amazing, the art and story is solid and is an overall great read. Highly recommend to anyone who enjoys comics at any sort of level. Don't need to know much marvel back story with this, especially since it largely takes place in an alternate universe compared to most marvel comic books, but if you're familiar with various marvel character you will find some of this universes versions of them to be rather interesting. It holds up very well on it's own and doesn't rely heavily on anything that came before. I will be keeping up with this series as long as it runs

Spider-Gwen Swings Into Action

I loved the whole Spider-Gwen concept, so I was eager to read the first issue of her ongoing series.The art was excellent. The characters familiar, with appearances by Ben Grimm and Frank Castle, and this world's version of The Vulture. It was almost perfect. I just wish it had been a longer debut issue.
