I enjoyed the anthology itself

I know I am not a professional manga artist but i will review this as both a reader and a fellow artist.

I enjoyed the anthology itself, it was fun reading through the different stories and artists and its overall good [i really enjoyed Djinn and Heartblaze cant wait to read the next of those]. Cover is awesome [even how the text are arranged], I liked Djinn and Heartblaze because they were my type of stories, plus the art is awesome and the panelling flows visually [it doesnt confuse my eyes where to go]

However, as a reader, there are things i catch that seem missing
[WARNING: THIS IS ONLY MY OPINION]
First off was that i was confused which manga was which at first. The front cover does say the titles but once u open the anthology, a reader gets confused which manga titles match the chapters inside so i wanted to suggest to put the titles of each manga on the chapter pages EXCEPT make the text smaller and placed on the bottom corner of the chapter pages. small enough for it to be both readable and doesnt disturb the beauty of the chapter page.

The next thing i noticed was the page numbers missing, is that intentional?

Comic Sans font is not a good font for manga speech bubbles nor reading comics for that matter, there are better fonts found in http://www.dafont.com/
they are free to use. I suggest your team to download these fonts on the link below. [especially MANGA TEMPLE font or MANGA SPEAK 2 for the speech bubbles]

The art in Witch of Ginza is very lovely, however some of pages the panels dont flow the way the eye of the reader would flow, i got confused on which panel to read the next scene because of how the panels were placed [thus also making me confused which speech bubble to jot my eyes next.] I wanna suggest to align some of the panels to know the chronological order of the scenes.

That's so far i could say about this. Please let this review be an inspiration to improve, not for negativity, the Anthology has so much potential, it just needs some fixes and twerks here and there. Thanks, ill look forward for the next issue :)))

About the Author
Gosho Aoyama made his debut in 1992 with Chotto Matte (Wait a Minute), which won Shogakukan's prestigious Shinjin Comic Taisho (Newcomer's Award for Comics) and launched his career as a critically acclaimed, top-selling manga artist. In addition to Detective Conan, which won the Shogakukan Manga Award in 2001, Aoyama created the popular manga Yaiba, which won the Shogakukan Manga Award in 1992. Aoyama's manga is greatly influenced by his boyhood love for mystery, adventure and baseball, and he has cited the tales of Arsene Lupin and Sherlock Holmes and the samurai films of Akira Kurosawa as some of his childhood favorites.

About the Author
Alan Moore is a magician and performer, and is widely regarded as the best and most influential writer in the history of comics. His seminal works include From Hell, V for Vendetta, and Watchmen, for which he won the Hugo Award. He was born in 1953 in Northampton, UK, and has lived there ever since.
George Khoury wrote and edited the Eisner-nominated Kimota and The Extraordinary Works of Alan Moore. High-Quality Comic Book History Book

One of the best publications by this team. They should do more like this. Excellent coverage of the topic that had me going back to local comic shows to buy back issues.

A few minor points:
1. A bit too much time with The Heap in the beginning.
2. Could have spent more time with Man Thing.
3. Needed to cover SLUDGE, which was created by Steve Gerber for Malibu.

Other than that, it's an excellent retrospective for people who like this sort of comic book history. They need to do more books like this.

Not really worth the wait. ( Sorry. )

After waiting almost ten years, it was a bit of a let down. My favorite part of the book was the reprinting of " IT ". Personally, I thought Bissette did the best interview. Also, some nice art from Ploog. Sadly, nothing I hadn't seen or heard already. If you're new to Swamp Thing, it's a great companion. My main problem is Gerber had passed away in the last few years. So, he didn't have much to say.

Crazy amounts of specialized detail with all the key players

As laid out in editor Jon B. Cooke’s introduction, Swampmen: Muck-Monsters and Their Makers was originally supposed to come out over 12 years ago. Now, it’s here, labeled as Comic Book Creator #6, but it’s similar in length and content to other TwoMorrows volumes.

Either way, it’s a specialized subject. The book focuses on the swamp monsters of the 1970s comics and in detail on the Alan Moore era of Swamp Thing. Two pages of justification lay out other characters to be covered: Marvel’s Man-Thing, The Heap (first seen in 1942, but reinvented in 1971), and the much-lesser-known Bog Beast (from Atlas/Seaboard), the Lurker in the Swamp (Gold Key), and Marvin, the Dead-Thing (Warren).

In his introductory editorial material, Cooke takes on a small-time huckster voice I suspect is inspired by Stan Lee’s 70s Marvel Soapbox columns. It’s an acquired taste, and not one worth spending time with unless you’re also nostalgic for that comic era. Better to push through to letting the creators and history speak.

Certainly, if you’re interested in the topic, this is exactly the book you want, since it goes into ridiculous detail on the subject. An early piece briefly covers the connection with Theodore Sturgeon’s “It”, a classic short story from 1940 with the core premise of a monster raised from a man’s skeleton in the swamp. The story itself is also reprinted. The character profiles cover origins, not fictionally, but from the creators who came up with or worked on these monsters and comics.

The book is only in color for the first third. The lengthy interviews don’t matter, but the later art reproductions are only in black-and-white. The book starts with comic history, overviews of various appearances and titles, before entering into conversations with key creators known for their work in the genre.

Those interview subjects include Swamp Thing‘s Len Wein, Bernie Wrightson, Rick Veitch, John Totleben, Man-Thing‘s Steve Gerber, Val Mayerik, Mike Ploog, Jim Mooney, and the reason this book probably came out: Alan Moore on Swamp Thing, in a conversation originally conducted in 2002. Given how much is known about him and his work, the more informative piece is a long retrospective with Steven R. Bissette, also from 10 years ago. Between his comments and those of Veitch, the reader will also get some insight into the struggles for creative control and how the corporate publishing companies treated freelancers in that era. A Strong and Exciting Start

When I picked up Secret I was expecting something similar to Judge or Doubt. Instead I was treated to a much different story.

Unlike Judge or Doubt, which rely on characters trapped in a singular location playing a game, Secret is literally more open. These characters are not trapped in a single location, and while the characters are given an objective, there is no obvious game being played (at least not at first). Instead, the characters are tied together by a single, tragic accident that they are all survivors of. The story is told from various, switching view points and their recollections of the accident help develop the mystery of what really happened. All is not always clear, though. Some of these characters may be lying, or because of their state after the accident they may not have fully understood what they had seen. So what we, the reader, is being told may not be what actually happened. The fact that the story is being told by potentially unreliable narrators makes the mystery that much more intriguing, and the truths being uncovered that much more surprising.

The art is simple, but expressive. The characters tend to have a fairly uniform look, especially among the males, but have distinctive enough qualities to make most of them easy to tell apart. The story is told smoothly, and the pages are uncluttered. 90% of the book is just people talking to each other, and yet nothing ever feels static or slow. It helps that the dialogue has a natural flow to it that keeps the pace up.

Secrets is a very strong start to what could turn out to be a very interesting and entertaining series. I cannot wait for volume 2!

About the Author
J.M. DeMatteis was a music critic but gave it up for becoming an award-winning writer best known for his personal works such as MOONSHADOW and BROOKLYN DREAMS. He began writing for DC in the late 1970s and rose to prominence with characters such as the JUSTICE LEAGUE revamp of the 1980s, a franchise that earned him an Eisner Award in 2004 for Best Humor Publication. All it took for me to pick up “Trinity of Sin: The Phantom Stranger Volume 3: The Crack in Creation” was the presence of Swamp Thing on the cover. DC Comics knew exactly what they were doing and I fell for it. I’m a sucker for anything that features Bernie Wrightson and Len Wein’s mossy creature. Unfortunately, he didn’t figure into the story as much as I would’ve hoped. That’s not to say the book wasn’t compelling.

With the Justice League missing and the villains in control, Phantom Stranger must destroy evil itself! But to stop the Crime Syndicate, Deadman must take control of Aquaman’s body!

The official synopsis provided by DC is really just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to “Trinity of Sin: The Phantom Stranger Volume 3: The Crack in Creation.” There’s so much more here than just what they describe. The Phantom Stranger must save his guardian angel, partner with the Spectre to do battle against the Sin Eater and his evil minions, and face his day of judgment against a council made up of his most dangerous enemies.

He does all of this while battling his own will to rebel against his Maker and take things into his own hands. The fact that so much of the book deals with spiritual battles within ourselves is part of what kept me interested in “Trinity of Sin: The Phantom Stranger Volume 3: The Crack in Creation.” Granted, there are a lot of religious ideologies mixed together here. Although much of it is based in Christianity and the teachings of the Bible, other world religions end up being blended in and create a hodge podge of New Age mumbo jumbo in the end.

The concept of the Phantom Stranger being Judas Iscariot atoning for his betrayal of Jesus Christ intrigued me immediately. His is a story about the road to redemption and his constant struggle to keep the faith and blindly follow the Will of God wherever it takes him. J.M. DeMatteis, Len Wein, and Dan Didio do a good job combining forces to keep readers engaged through this collection of issues 12 through 22 of the Trinity of Sin: The Phantom Stranger and Trinity of Sin: The Phantom Stranger Future’s End #1.

One problem I had with “Trinity of Sin: The Phantom Stranger Volume 3: The Crack in Creation” is the way the different issues skip ahead in the story, leaving out major events talked about but never witnessed on the page. It felt like most of the action took place in other issues of different comic book titles. That’s one of the problems of having a combined universe. Things happen to characters in another issue of another series that affects the book you’re invested in. There’s too much interweaving of storylines between the different character titles. The only way you could keep up with it all is if you won the lottery and had a few hundred dollars a month and 24 hours a day to dedicate to comic book reading.

“Trinity of Sin: The Phantom Stranger Volume 3: The Crack in Creation” is rated “T” for Teens. There’s the usual comic book violence, some mild language, and partial nudity. I don’t know which artist or artists it is, but someone has an obsession with naked bodies of all types. Whether it’s lost souls or our superheroes being stripped (literally) of their costumes and powers, you better believe they’re three-quarters naked.

I do have my problems with the religious aspects of “Trinity of Sin: The Phantom Stranger Volume 3: The Crack in Creation” being all jumbled together. However, if you treat the book as a work of fiction influenced by the Bible and other religions, it’s an entertaining read that blends together love, loss, regret, and redemption with a healthy dose of action and adventure. The inclusion of John Constantine, Swamp Thing, the Spectre, and Superman is an added bonus.

Love the art and the story

My daughter loved this. She is very much a MLP fan. She stated that she really liked the artist for this book and that there are several "hidden things" as she says. I think she means that every once in a while there is a reference to the non-MLP world snuck in the story. (She is ten, so she is getting too old for the dolls, and is becoming more of a collector. I don't like for her to read fanfic unless I read it first, but I am comfortable letting her read these comics.

A Miasma of Misinformation

This skimpy quasi-book took me about ten minutes to read – and the information it contains about Kundalini is wrong and incomplete.

The author writes: “Kundalini is the source of untapped energy residing in the base of the spine.” No, it’s not. Kundalini is the force-flow of awakened Consciousness uncoiling one’s mortal “coils,” or nadis. Although the “lower” Kundalini is commonly first felt to awaken at the base of the spine, the primal Energy, or “higher” Kundalini, is emitted from and resorbed into the Heart-center (located two digits to the right of the center of one’s chest), which is the locus of Self-realization.

The author writes: “You attain liberation, enlightenment or Moksha when this energy reaches the crown or sahasrara chakra.”

The author is wrong. When the ascending, or spinal, Kundalini reaches the crown, the yogi can experience nirvikalpa samadhi (formless engrossment), but he cannot attain liberation, or sahaj samadhi (permanent effortless abidance as the Self), until the “higher”, or descending, Kundalini cuts his Heart-knot (the Hridayam, not the Anahata heart chakra).

The author writes: “The purpose of awakening the Kundalini yoga is to unite the Muladhara chakra with the Sahasrara chakra.”

First, off, this statement demonstrates how sloppily this book was plastered together. The sentence should read: “The purpose of awakening the Kundalini,” not “The purpose of awakening the Kundalini yoga,” Secondly, the purpose of awakening Kundalini is not to unite the base chakra with the crown chakra; it is to unite Kundalini (as Spirit Power, or Shakti) with one’s soul (contracted Siva in the Heart-center), and thus realize oneself as Siva-Shakti, the Self.

This book contains a number of yoga exercises, and some of them, such as Bhastrika, which literally forces the Kundalini to awaken, should NOT be performed except under the guidance of an experienced teacher. To cavalierly practice Kundalini yoga is to risk the wrath of the Serpent Power. But this superficial text doesn’t broach the subject of the dangers of Sri Kundalini.

Wonderful!

Although I'm relatively new to yoga, I am a fanatic and it's a big part of my life now. I had never heard of kundalini yoga, and I love to learn about new ways to improve my practice, so I grabbed this book. As it turns out, this type of yoga teaches intense focus on the power centers of the body. I've implemented some of the advice in this book into my practice and wow has it improved my focus, my flexibility, and the meditative effect I love. Great book and highly recommended for all yogis, whether beginners or advanced!

Very long time back I had tried learning Kundalini Yoga but couldn't continue because the book was very difficult to follow, I had lost my interest during that time. But I somehow got reference to this book through my friends and the language is very simple to understand and the steps are easy follow. I started practicing the Kundalini Yoga especially the Ajna Chakra and and I'm seeing the result. It will take some time to become master in it. But I'm willing to spend time in it as its worth it. Vintage, Out-of-Print Science Fiction, But Find a Better Price.

The publishing of The Time Trap in 1962 marked the end of Edgar P Jacobs' most important decade of work on his graphic novel series Blake & Mortimer. Beginning in the early 1950s with The Secret of the Swordfish trilogy, Jacobs completed 9 novels in that time, peaking with The Yellow "M" in 1956. Recently Cinebook re-published 4 of these novels and made them widely available in English for the first time. At the writing of this review Cinebook has no plans to release new editions of the other 5 classic novels (including The Time Trap), preferring instead to release newer works by other authors in a revival of the series. Comcat Comics released, in English, both The Time Trap and Atlantis Mystery in 1989, and the novels subsequently went out of print, explaining the high price tags usually placed on them. The Secret of the Swordfish trilogy is supposedly available in long out of print English editions, but is nearly impossible to find. Anyway...
The Time Trap is mostly a solo adventure for professor Mortimer, with Blake appearing only briefly at the beginning and end. While following up on startling information in a letter from a recently vanquished foe, Mortimer enters a time machine which was created as a trap and is jolted seemingly randomly through several different times in the history of earth. After several unrelated misadventures he finds himself in the distant future helping a ragtag group of post-apocalyptic human revolutionaries take on their overlords and break back out of the dark ages. The story veers wildly around throughout the novel leaving a sense that Jacobs did not start out with a specific story in mind but simply took the story wherever his imagination wanted it to go. The art is a bit stale and static at times, which is especially disappointing since he could have built on some of the great work he did in SOS Meteors a few years earlier. Ultimately this novel is a step backward from that. However, I have to admit that I found it fun to read, as much of the imaginative science fiction from that era is. A weak 4 out of 5 stars for The Time Trap.
If you are new to the Blake and Mortimer series, don't start here, reserve your money for The Yellow "M" first, then SOS Meteors, then the out-of-print Atlantis Mystery. If you still want more classic Jacobs, then go out and find this for a decent price.

Another classic Blake & Mortimer album- staring Prof Mortimer

Another classic Blake & Mortimer album from creator EP Jacobs. Cinebooks passed over reprinting these due to the old reprint by Comcast, and finally got back to reprinting this one. So while its marked as #19, its actually #9 and is a sequel to "SOS Meteors".

This one is different from the others in the series. This is a solo adventure with Professor Mortimer, and one of the few that Col Olrik does not appear.

Miloch, the genius from SOS Meteors has willed Mortimer his secret lab and his new discovery: a time machine. But you have to figure he has something up his sleeve: revenge. So he hopes to trap Mortimer somewhere in time. Mortimer first travels to the time of the dinosaurs, then to medievel time before winding up in the 51st century! There he gets involved with a rebellion against a world tyrant. But will he be able to succeed and return to the present? Read and find out.

Blake and??????

This is an excellent book. Why? Well I consider myself a seasoned reader who can predict what will happen next but I was amazed at how Jacob's story unfolded.
The reader first thinks that this will be a retread of the H G Well's The Time Machine but the story is every bit as original and as gripping as Well's pioneering book was.
The art? Well it is wonderful. Beautiful detailed drawings in wonderful toned colours that add to the world that Blake finds himself in. And this is where I must divulge the origins of my title. Mortimer features only at the start and ending of this story. It is Blake's adventure alone. Jacobs is a genius and betters his former master Herge in my humble opinion (and I'm a Tintinophile!). I won't divulge the story that is for the reader to enjoy and how I envy him on reading this wonderful book for the first time.

I really like this product. This is my first time buying a Shonen Jump Weekly magazine, and I'm very glad that I got it. It came on time, and was in very good quality and condition. However, the printing was very light, which I assume was intentional, since this is a comic book magazine and it probably takes a lot of ink to print.

I think that for anyone interested in writing a manga, or learning Japanese should look at the Japanese editions of Shonen Jump. It can help inspire manga artists, and you can learn quite a few Japanese phrases from reading this.

The only thing that you should be aware of with Shonen Jump, is that there can be some bloody action scenes, and some suggestive situations. Other than that, it is fine. I definitely recommend this product.
