About the Author
L.B. Cole (1918-1995) earned a doctorate of Anatomy & Physiology from the University of Berlin, and was inducted into the Will Eisner Award Hall of Fame in 1999.
Bill Schelly is an Eisner-nominated comic-book and film historian; he lives in Seattle.

Sell the House, Sell the Car, Sell the Kids, but Buy this Book NOW!

We live in a Golden Age for fans of comic and graphic art. The best of the past is available in affordable reprint volumes and the creativity of contemporary graphic novelists today worldwide is at an all-time high, in my opinion. There are many publishers to thank for this on both accounts but surely near the apex of achievement is Fantagraphics. With "Black Light: The World of L.B Cole" they've hit the ball out of the park! It is magnificent. Sell the house, sell the car, sell the kids, but buy this book NOW! The oversize reproductions are spectacular. If L.B. Cole was forgotten or overlooked by comics historians before that oversight has now been corrected with a bang. Anyone with even a remote interest in comics art should own this volume. I'd give it ten stars, if I could. Now leave me alone, I'm going to go through it again, page by beautiful page. . .

SPECIAL BOOK FOR ANY ART LOVER - NOT JUST COMIC BOOK ART!!!

I pre-ordered this book as soon as it was offered on Amazon for three main reasons. Reason 1 - I had been hoping for a book collecting L. B. Cole's for decades ever since I saw his cover art and an article on him in the 1981 Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide. Reason 2 - Owning many of Fantagraphics Publishing's other books, I felt this book would be high quality in both the art and the info on L. B. Cole. Reason 3 - Bill Schelly as the author of the biographical info. I own many of Bill Schelly's books on comic books and comic book fandom, so I knew the info he shared would be top notch. This book fulfilled my reasons for buying very well indeed! I especially love the larger format of 10" by 13" - allowed Cole's art to be shared at a size that you could easily see the details of his art. I also loved that almost every page is full color and the color is high quality. Bill Schelly's ino on the author's life and art helped make this book so special. I much enjoyed learning more about the man L. B. Cole. I personally would have chosen a few comic book covers that were not shown full size to be full page art, but I still feel Fantagraphics did a great job of the art they did select to have full page displays. I'm thrilled to have this book and have already read through it and looked at the art four different times since receiving the book. This is a book that is special for anyone who enjoys comic book art and just art in general.

Cover art spectacular

This is primarily a lush and colorful collection of classic L.B. Cole Comic book covers, although it also includes a sampling of Cole's pulp and paperback covers as well. No full length comic book stories, although Cole did illustrate stories as well as covers. Here is hoping for a Jay Disbrow collection someday.
