Needs editing, on oh so many levels...
By Doc Magick
I'm going to keep this review short. I love Superboy, the Legion, Teen Titans, and pretty much everything in both older versions of these characters and the "new 52." But as sorry as I was to learn that "Superboy" was cancelled, this volume certainly demonstrates why it got the ax.

I won't discuss the "science" in this volume, because a science fiction or comic book author can make any science for her or his own world, but throwing around science words in random sentences just to sound "science-y" (a word I just made up - did it make me sound as smart as in this volume? No?)... And I have five science degrees, so I know that there is no sense here.

What this book could use is an editor. Preferably one who passed ninth grade English. One who knows that saying "and I" to sound smart instead of "and me" to be grammatically correct is always a poor choice. One who knows what to do with an apostrophe. Yes, I'm aware that I just wrote two non-sentences. But would Liz Erickson, the editor of this volume, know that? She doesn't understand that apostrophes indicate possessives, except for cases like "it's," which is a contraction of "it is." And apostrophes are never used to pluralize... "Jon's" will not ever mean multiple people named Jon.

All of this detracted from my suspension of disbelief. I get it. The title has been cancelled, so why bother even trying to put out a decently written comic? It's about the action and the art, right? Who cares if Superboy can suddenly out-leech the Parasite, or can only live by sucking the life energy from super-powered beings? Hasn't Superboy done this since his creation? No? Solar energy, you say? Yellow sun? That's just crazy...

So, it's all down to the art, then. And the "five years later" section of the volume was clearly drawn by a very talented eight-year-old. Or a chimp. Or an eight-year-old chimp...

Not exactly a climactic finale to the series.
By D.J. LYNCH
I read all five volumes and it just seemed like they got worse with each one. The story in Paradox was all over the place and the artwork was pretty inconsistent. Obviously there are different artists with each issue but the final issue in this volume looked messed up and was a complete distraction from the story being wrapped up. I wasn't that crazy about the fact that we spend the majority of this volume with "Jon" and not "Kon". It's clumsy storytelling to spend the first four volumes getting involved in one character's story and then during the finale he's nowhere to be seen. I enjoy a good time travel story with a time paradox but this was just confusing and the exposition to explain it all was clumsy and didn't help. I was excited for a "re-imagined" Superboy story but they just fell back on the old Superboy instead.
