"Totally Captivated" is totally captivating!
By D.V.L.
This story is jam packed with romance, beautiful drawings, and great messages about what it truly means to be in love, and allow another person into your life.
The main characters are Ewon and Mookyul--two boys who at first seem like they've come from completely different worlds. Ewon is a poor student who grew up in an orphanage and now completely supports himself, while Mookyul is a head hitter in the Mafia, and consequently loaded. Ewon ends up working for Mookyul on the suggestion of his ex, Jiho. Ewon, a person who cannot control his urges, cheated on Jiho and broke Jiho's heart. In a classic example of trying too little too late, Ewon then follows Jiho around begging for forgiveness. This angers Mookyul, Jiho's new boyfriend--but then Jiho convinces Mookyul to make some use of Ewon by having him be errand boy in Mookyul's office. Of course, Ewon accepts this proposition, for he wants to be closer to Jiho. Mookyul always keeps Ewon on his toes, between his always making out with Jiho, and his constant threats to Ewon: for if he doesn't fulfill his obligations as a lackey in the Mafia, Ewon's life is pretty much on the line. Unexpectedly, however, Ewon stops feeling so jealous over seeing Jiho and Mookyul all the time, when emotional and physical tension starts erupting between him and Mookyul.
Ultimately, it is revealed they came from far closer roots than they realized, and that their bond just might be strong enough to withstand one boy's macho playboy tendencies, and the other's playboy tendencies, which have come from a place of fear in truly opening up to one special person. The two help each other grow as individuals, and also come together as a unit--proving to themselves, and perhaps readers, that even those of us who feel the most broken, or who have built up the toughest shells, can still find that person to truly connect with.
The story is filled with fun dialogue, interesting twists and turns in the backstory and the present events, and absolutely stunning artwork. These boys are some of the prettiest people I've ever seen! All in all, I'd say that the title "Totally Captivating" is a very apt one, and that this book is a must read.

They had me with Volume 1
By F. Caldwell
The description from Amazon pretty much covers the plot of book one. Ewon Jung is our hero, a 23 year old college student who cheats on his boyfriend (Jiho) at the beginning of the story. In retaliation, Jiho picks up a new man who just happens to be a gangster with "movie star" good looks. You'll hear that a couple of times but Mookyul (said gangster) truly is a fine specimen. He's tall and thin with a mop of dark hair and cold piercing eyes. But I digress. Ewon ends up as errand boy at Mookyul's office where he quickly endears himself to everyone but the boss himself. He also causes a bit of trouble which makes up the bulk of the plot. As this is only book one the relationship between Ewon and Mookyul is in its infancy. In fact, Mookyul is technically with Jiho. By the way, this is a Korean manhwa so it reads from left to right instead of the right/left you might be expecting.
Now for the art, book 1 probably has the most art problems of the series but they're not really all that bad. I might just be picky. Overall the art is incredibly quite good and I love that the characters have a full wardrobe. The men are beautiful but not overly girly (aside from Jiho who is drawn that way intentionally). There is also a heavy sprinkling of super deformed panels which I happen to enjoy. Ewon's personality is especially suited to chibi mode. He's quirky and fun but still tough enough to stand up to Mookyul. No crying and whining from him.
The story telling is REALLY good. Better than I was expecting. There is a plot here that continues through the whole series. I admit when I bought Totally Captivated I was a little unsure whether I'd like it but after I started reading I was hooked. This is so well written. Hardly any awkward dialogue at all. The story is funny, sexy, and truly engrossing. I can almost guarantee that you will grow to love Ewon and Mookyul. Actually you'll love all the characters, including Mookyul's lackeys who are probably the nicest bunch of "thugs" I've ever seen.
If you're looking for smut and nothing else then you might not be so thrilled with this one. There is a minimal amount of sex and it doesn't show any "bits". But if you actually want a story, and a good one at that, I can't recommend this book enough. I'm eagerly awaiting book 6.

Didn't Captivate Me Enough
By CindyMinz
Ewon is a pretty boy who ends up having to work as a loan shark for the mafia because of his jaded ex Jiho. He works for the head honcho Mookyul who of course is dating his ex Jiho. The book has it's moments, and I caught myself laughing at alot of the situations and language between characters. It never held back in using profanity and giving the reader the impression that these people were real gangsters but for some reason the story just rubbed me the wrong way. Maybe because I'm not a fan of stories when a character falls in love with someone and that said someone treats them like utter crap. Mookyul makes Ewon's life a living hell at first, and constantly underpays him and throws random things at him when he's angry. He complies because he still feels bad about cheating on Jiho and is afraid of being killed by the mafia. Eventually Mookyul lightens up and takes a liking to Ewon and eases up on him. They are both super cute and I think Ewon is a very funny and nice character but I don't like the dynamic of their relationship. I'm more of a old school romance type of gal. I like courtship and true love and a strong balanced foundation. It might sound silly but I don't like when one character is under minded by the other. It's a typical anime/manga scenario that I'm not a fan of. I'll give it one more book though to see where the story goes.
