The Course of True Love
By Merry Reader
Ms Brooks made this book a hard one to put down. Zac Harding married Victoria in a whirlwind courtship, but on their honeymoon, the first night of their married life together Zac got a call from his Aunt about his cousin Gina, who by the way he once had an affair with.
Gina has taken an overdose and Zac goes to see what he can do to help, he pays for Gina to get an apartment, he even pays for the apartment.
Victoria finds out from her not-so-well-meaning cold vindictive mother Coral.
Hurt and disillusioned Victoria leaves Zac.
Zac follows gets finds out Victoria's friend William helped her find a hiding place, in Italy.
When Victoria gets back to England she gets a job at a florist shop, and she loves the temporary job.
Only Zac finds out where she is and he calls on her only to find out that she is expecting a baby. Zac thinks the baby is Williams. Victoria isn't hurt by being accused of carrying William's child, but when Zac found out the baby was his, he jumped all over Victoria for not convincing him the baby is his.
That's when Coral steps in again, she lets Victoria know her father had a long time mistress, and she encouraged it, because she hated having sex with her husband.
Coral also hated having a baby, when Victoria was born Coral stopped having anything to do with her husband sexually.
And Coral doesn't understand why Victoria doesn't feel the same way.
Zac finally gets Victoria to come back to him, when she has a fall. And now he has to start all over to get her trust back.
From the back of the book: 'Wedding night baby. It had been a dream wedding-followed by a night of unforgettable passion. Then Victoria discovered that her new husband, the man she adored, had betrayed her-after only one day of marriage! She packed her bags and left...
Zac Harding wouldn't let Victoria go. He was determined to find his missing bride and bring her home. Only, when he did, he was shocked to find that Victoria had a secret she was desperate to keep: their wedding night had resulted in a baby!'

I believed in the HEA
By Vanessa
Zac and Victoria Harding were recently wed, when Zac claimed he needed to handle a business crisis w/in hours of their nuptials. The following morning Victoria's helpful mother advised her that Zac went to another woman's room and spent the remainder of the night there. Her mother also let her know about a business deal w/ Zac that took place, making it appear that Zac had other reasons for marrying Victoria. Zac claims that he has never lied to Victoria and business and the OW would have been brought to light if Victoria had asked. Distraught and feeling betrayed Victoria did a runner and soon after discovered that she happens to be pregnant w/ her estranged husband's child. When Zac locates her again and is made aware of her pregnancy he immediately deduces that she slept w/ the man she had run too.

Oh what a mess this book appeared to be. But it all worked in the end. Yes, Zac made an excellent point of how it looked w/ Victoria and the OM, but it didn't appear that he correlated it w/ the way he and the OW appeared to Victoria. Later, of course, he admits that he should have enlightened his wife, but he really was just protecting and sheltering her innocence from the hardships of life - something that wasn't done for him. Zac had some issues too and it goes a long way to explain why he didn't confide in his wife, IMHO. Victoria had issues that were manifested more so when she believed her husband of only hours was quite capable of keeping a woman on the side. One of her issues is still in her life too - her mother!

But you could tell that Zac loved Victoria despite the issues and he really was trying his hardest to break through her shell. He seemed like a man that didn't like to explain himself and would walk away from any other woman that he believed had betrayed him. Yet Zac continued to try to support Victoria when he believed she carried OM's child. He went out of his way sometimes to be there for her. He would even sneak some of his support, but dragon lady would inadvertently - okay on purpose - let the cat out of the bag. Zac needed to learn to share things w/ others instead of keeping everything in as he tried to deal w/ it all on his own; Victoria needed to deal w/ and discover answers to issues from her past so that she could put it down and pick up her present and future w/ Zac. At the end of the story, I believed in the HEA.

liked the change in heroine
By RomReader
On the day after her wedding, heroine discovers that her husband went to his ex-lover's room on their wedding night to console her over her suicide attempt. She's upset that he didn't tell her where he was going & that he bought his ex-lover an apt. while they were still engaged. After their confrontation, heroine leaves him. Hero doesn't find her until 3 months later, the same day that she finds out she's pregnant. He tries to convince her to reconcile with him but she sticks with her decision to divorce him. She believes that he doesn't regret his sins of omission nor does he loves her enough to be faithful to her. But Hero is determined to get her back, even when he thought that she was carrying was another man's baby.

This Brooks' book was an enjoyable & quick read. Dialogue was good, although some of the details in book dragged a bit. Sexual chemistry & love scenes were fine. It was neat to see heroine changed from being naive, doormaty, & passive to assertive, strong, & independent. She didn't give in easily to her desire for him or his alpha-maleness. I liked how heroine wouldn't compromise her ideals. She would snap out of her moments of weakness by reminding herself about what she wasn't getting from their r/s & what she wanted from it.

Recommended.
